Abstract
917,460. Wire ropes. DIETZ, G. April 16, 1959 [April 24, 1958], No. 13024/59. Class 109. A helically-stranded rope comprises an outer layer of strands 8 and an inner layer of strands 10, the strands of both layers being wound in the same direction in parallel lay and the individual strands of both layers being each formed of inner and outer layers of wires, the wires of both layers being wound in the same direction in parallel lay, and wherein filler strands 18 are located in the spaces between the strands 8 and 10, the diameter of each strand 18 being substantially smaller than that of the strands 8 and 9. The rope may have a core 9 that is smaller in diameter than the strands 8 and 10. The strands 8 and 10 each comprise inner and outer layers of wires wound in the same direction in parallel lay about a central core, the wires forming the strands 8 being wound in a direction opposite to the wires forming the strands 10. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), the core 9 is absent, the inner strands 10 are three in number, and the outer strands 8 six in number.
