Abstract

[Also in Division H1] A multi-layer helically twisted wire rope has at least one of the inner layers embedded, so far as its outer periphery is concerned, in a covering of synthetic plastics having portions projecting into gaps or spaces between adjacent rope strands, each strand of the wire rope including a plurality of wound wires. In Fig. 1, three different Examples A, B and C are shown in juxtaposition, in each of which there is an outer stranded layer a of round wires, a first inner layer b of flat wire strands, a second layer c of round wire strands, and a core d with electric conductors 7. In Example A, a polyamide covering 2 surrounds the inner layer b and acts as wedges 3 between the strands thereof, and a second plastic covering 5 surrounds and provides wedges between the strands of the layer c; 1 and 4 being impregnated compositions. Example B differs from Example A in that the outer strands a are enclosed by a plastic covering 9 forming wedges between the strands a. In Example C, only the outer stranded layer a and the second inner stranded layer c are provided with plastic wedges 11 and 12, respectively, whereas the stranded layer b is merely enclosed by an impregnating composition.
