Abstract
1391355 Wire ropes DRAHTSEILWERK SAAR GmbH 26 June 1972 [16 Nov 1971] 29803/72 Heading D1T A wire rope has at least one strand layer in which at least every second strand has between its outer wires at least one gap through which a plastics or rubber substance has been forced to surround and enclose the strands of said layer, the strands of said layer being in contact with each other and the outer wires of a strand having a common circumscribing circle. Fig 3 shows half of a rope having ten strands in its outer layer, these strands being alternately thicker and thinner strands. The thicker strands are spiral shaped, that is to say designed with uniform gaps in the outer layer. The thinner strands and the strands of the inner layer have no such gaps between the wires of their outer wires, The gaps between the outer wires of the thicker outer strands permit a plastics substance to penetrate to the strands of the inner layer. The smaller strands of the outer layer may be spiral shaped A construction with the smaller strands in spiral shape and the larger strands with a closed surface is, however, contrary to the invention insofar as the gaps between the large outer strands and the inner strands supporting them could not then be filled up. It would be otherwise when the inner strands are spiralshaped and thus provide a passage between the inner and outer layers. Fig 4 shows a two-layered parallel-stranded wire rope in which not only the strands of the outer layer, but also the strands of the inner layer, are spiral shaped. The inner layer constitutes the layer in which the strands of a layer are in contact with each other so that the plastics or rubber filling substance penetrates as far as the core strand. In Fig 4 the outer strands are spaced so far apart that they may be closed strands, that is to say strands in which the wires of the outer layer have no spacing between adjacent wires.
