Abstract

1,016,781. Baling presses. FAWCETT PRESTON & CO. Ltd. July 13, 1962 [April 20, 1961], No. 14380/61. Heading B5F. In an automatic baling press, a bale 3 is compressed by ram 1 as it is urged against vertically disposed binding wire 4 which is fed from reels 6A, 6B to lie longitudinally along the parallel sides of the bale whereupon a forked guide 9 displaces the lower wire through a guide slot in the face of ram 1 to encircle the bale; the wire 4 (Fig. 6, not shown), is pressed against and severed by cutter bar 12 and the two ends of the wire to be joined are retained in grooves in the profiled end faces 13 of two shafts 14 which are rotated by racks 15 and pinions 16 to effect jointing by twisting. Resultant axial movement of shafts 14 by slot cams 17 bends the twisted ends to lie flush with the side of the bale. Steel rope or hoop iron may alternatively be employed and a plurality of straps may be used.
