1503450 Baling presses LINDEMANN MASCHINENFABRIK GmbH 20 Aug 1976 [11 Sept 1975] 34781/76 Heading B5F In a baling press having a filling box 1, Fig. 1, and a pressing box 2 in which paper &c. bales B, Fig. 7, are formed by a reciprocating plunger 4, the bales are tied with binding material 12 which is drawn by the plunger 4 from a roll 11 into a forward position, Fig. 1, in which it is held as the plunger is retracted. In the example the bale is tied simultaneously with four parallel loops of wire, rope or strapping which pass beneath the filling box 1, forwardly at 32 into grooves 15 in the floor of the pressing box 2, around a catch 16 and upwardly to a pulley block 22, the binding being threaded by hand before baling starts. Material fed into a shoot 7 is compressed in stages to form the bale by reciprocation of the plunger which has needle grooves 4b, a knife for severing material against a stationary knife 9 and an apron 8 for supporting material remaining in the sheet 7. When a bale is complete a hooked needle on a motordriven belt 29 passes through the groove 4b to form a loop 32, 33, Fig. 7, of the lower pass 32. The loop is now cut at Z and an eye 18 on the other end of the tie is pulled to the right by a carriage 21 and is twisted with the severed end 32 to complete the tie. A door 6 is now opened and the bale ejected by the plunger 4 which carries spring pressed pawls 30 having guide grooves for the loops 33. The spring-pressed latch 16 is released from the groove 15 by contact with the advancing pawl or the loop 33 it conveys and re-enters the groove to return the advanced loop when the plunger withdraws. The hook or pulley 22 is now engaged with the hooked end on loop 33. Alternatively, Fig. 9 (not shown), a reciprocating pawl (35) may be used.
