Abstract

1,166,650. Baling machines. SOC. ANON. FILATURE SAINT LIEVIN. 30 Dec., 1966 [3 Feb., 1966], No. 58385/66. Heading B5F. [Also in Division B8] The heads of rams 3, 5 (Fig. 1) between which a bundle of fibrous material is compacted are formed by bars 41, 42 which can be removed or retracted to facilitate removing the bundle after it has been compressed and bound. The bars may be in the form of wire clips 4 (Fig. 3) sliding into position or in the form of straight pins (4<SP>1</SP>), (Fig. 4, not shown). In the embodiment illustrated a barrel is compressed within a cylinder 1 and, still held compressed by the two rams, is pushed out of the top of the cylinder. A spinner 8 then binds the bale while it is rotated in steps by a mechanism 6. After binding the bale is released from the rams together with the bars which are then removed from the bale. The bale may be enclosed between a cap 9 and disc 10 which may be adhered together after binding. A fully automatic apparatus is described (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) in which containers are fed in on an intermittently moving conveyer, the upper and lower ribs are positioned, and then the pressing and binding operations performed. When the pressure of the rams is relieved a device (18) ejects the bundle to -a weighing machine whilst an ejector (19) discharges the empty container. The binder assembly may rotate around the bundle instead of the bundle being rotated.
