Abstract
1,016,701. Slewing bearings for jib cranes. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. March 8, 1963 [March 8, 1962], No. 8895/62. Heading B8B. A level luffing jib crane is supported on a pintle 6, Fig. 2, which is rotatably mounted on an undercarriage 2 by upper and lower roller rings 28, 30. The vertical load is taken by a plain footstep bearing 26 on a platform 7. Securing is effected by a pinion 36 and a ring 44 on the undercarriage 2. The upper roller ring, Fig. 4, has horizontal rollers 60 which run between tracks 32, 48 and is supported by vertical rollers 64 which run on a flange 50, Fig. 5, attached to the pintle 6. To facilitate servicing, the roller ring is in four similar parts which may be separately removed. The lower ring is similarly constructed. In a second embodiment. Fig. 8, the upper and lower roller rings 28, 30 are supported by rollers 78, 82 which run respectively on a plate 80 mounted on the pintle 6 and a platform 84 on the undercarriage 2. Fig. 9 shows a third construction in which both upper and lower roller rings have a support track 86 which bears on rollers 88 mounted on rings 90 secured to the undercarriage 2. As a further alternative the rollers of the tracks may be supported by horizontal flanges on either or both of the vertical tracks on which they run. Upper and lower rings need not be supported in the same way. Luffing is by an hydraulic ram.
