Abstract
In a flame spraying process of metallizing a beryllium body the beryllium is pretreated mechanically to form micro profiles in its surface in order to increase the adherence of the metal coating. The pretreatment may comprise machining to form furrows or grooves, knurling, scratching, shot blasting or wet sandblasting. The spraying is preferably performed with a wire spray gun and the metals sprayed may be iron, steel, stainless steel, aluminium and aluminium/magnesium alloys and zinc. The metallized layer may be sealed by vacuum impregnation with resins, silicates, mineral or synthetic oil or a solid lubricant.
