Abstract
In a method of coating surfaces with magnesium or a magnesium alloy, alone or together with zinc, iron, steel, or other metal, the magnesium, in the form of a powder which will pass a 90-mesh sieve but not a 200-mesh sieve, is sprayed by a pistol, the particles during spraying being subjected to heating to a temperature related to the speed of the particles so that they are rendered adherent to one another and to the surface, but ignition of the particles is avoided. In an example, magnesium or magnesium alloy of the size above referred to is sprayed by means of a Schori metallising pistol as described in Specification 432,831, with an air pressure of 20-30 lbs. per square inch and a gas pressure of 10 lbs. per square inch to give a flame temperature of 350 DEG C.
