Abstract

Metal surfaces, e.g. of iron or steel, are given a heat resistant coating by spraying in powder form an alloy or mixture of nickel, chromium and aluminium or one of said metals and an alloy of the other two, with or without iron or steel, by means of a spray gun, the powder as it issues from the gun being heated to a temperature sufficient to produce fusion or sintering of the particles to render them adherent to the base metal. Aluminium may be present in the powder up to 50 per cent. The coated base may be heated to produce alloying of the coating and base metal, and a pre-coating of sprayed aluminium may be applied. To encourage the deposited metal to form a protective oxide coating the base article to be coated may be heat-treated. Specification 551,689 is referred to.
