Abstract

Sheet is coated on at least one surface with an alloy containing 1% to 5% magnesium, 3% to 17% aluminium, balance essentially zinc. Application may be by hot dipping, possibly with special wiping techniques to give a thin coating, by vapour deposition, or by powder metallurgical methods. Advantages are corrosion resistance equivalent to conventional galvanised finish but with thinner coating, reduced bath temperature when aluminium is at the lower part of the range, and reduced skimming losses.
