Abstract
1,014,997. Discharge lamp circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 13, 1964 [April 16, 1963], No. 15136/64. Heading H2H. In an arrangement comprising two discharge lamps 6, 7 in series with a capacitor 8 shunting one 6 to ensure the prior starting of the other 7, another capacitor 9 of smaller value is connected across the other lamp 7 to reduce the pre-striking voltages below the cold striking value of the lamp. Due to the capacitors 8, 9 discharging into the lamp and shortening the dark period, a choke 4, which may be incorporated as leakage inductance into transformer 3, 12, may be reduced in size. Typical values of the components 4, 5, 8, 9 are given in the Specification.
