Abstract

1346521 Supply circuits for flash tubes MULTIBLITZ DR ING D A MANNESMANN GmbH & CO KG 27 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 19678/72 Heading H2H [Also in Division H1] A supply circuit for a flash tube ignitable by an ignition electrode 24 comprises a storage capacitor 20 adapted to discharge via the flash tube and the lead resistance R of the discharge circuit connected to the flash tube being sufficiently low so that the peak discharge current depends only on the impedance of the flash tube. A mains transformer 10 has secondary windings 14, 16 connected to bridge rectifiers 18, 34 for charging the capacitor 20 and a capacitor 38 respectively. In each half cycle of the mains supply a thyristor 42 is triggered by the capacitor 38 so that a capacitor 28 discharges through a transformer 26 to supply an ignition pulse to the electrode 24. The flash tube may operate at frequencies in the range 25 to 100 Hz and comprises an ultra-violet transmitting quartz tube filled with xenon gas. The flash tube may be used for drying printing ink.
