Abstract
1,239,756. Ignition systems. ROTAX Ltd. Nov. 1, 1968 [Nov.21, 1967], No.52855/67. Heading F1B. A spark ignition system comprises first and second capacitors C1, C2, a pair of rectifier means D1-D4, D5-D8 through which the capacitors are charged respectively, a pair of transformers T1, T2 for supplying electric current to the rectifier means respectively, a resistor R1, R2 through which the primary windings of the transformers can be connected to a source of A. C. supply, means for connecting the first capacitor to a pair of output terminals 12, 13 so that the capacitor can be discharged through an ignition plug P1 when the voltage across the first capacitor attains a predetermined value, triggerable means V2 for connecting the second capacitor to the pair of output terminals and means for supplying a triggering pulse to the triggerable means at a predetermined time after the first capacitor has been connected to the output terminals. As soon as the thyristor SCR2 conducts the capacitor C3 is discharged through the primary winding of the transformer T4 and a high voltage pulse appears at the secondary winding thereof. This pulse is applied to the trigger electrode of the discharge tube V 2 and causes conduction thereof to effect discharge of the capacitor C 2 through the spark plug.
