Abstract
962,417. Ignition systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 16, 1963 [April 16, 1962], No. 14646/62. Heading FIB. An ignition system comprises a capacitor C connected to a charging circuit and to a discharging circuit, the latter circuit including an inductance L in series relationship with two parallel connected but oppositely poled rectifiers RFI, RF2 of which one is controlled. Preferably means for triggering the controlled rectifier is provided. In a modification the inductance is provided by the primary winding of a transformer the secondary of which is connected to the sparking plug. The controlled rectifier may have one or more additional controlled rectifiers connected in series with it. At least one of the additional controlled rectifiers may be controlled by triggering. The rectifier triggering means can operate on a conventional time basis or it can be responsive to the capacitor charge voltage. The plug may be of the surface discharge type.
