Abstract
1380556 Ignition systems for gas appliances BRITISH GAS CORP 8 Dec 1971 [11 Sept 19701 43636/70 Heading F1B A spark ignition system for gas appliances uses an alternating current having a frequency of around 50 KHZ or higher. The current is generated by charging a capacitor 2 to several hundred volts from an electrical power supply and discharging the capacitor through a discharge device 6 to produce a high pulse frequency current. This current is fed to the primary winding of a high frequency transformer 11 and the secondary winding of the transformer is connected to an electrode 14 forming one side of an ignition spark gap 15. The discharge device 6 may be a spark gap, a gas filled diode or a thyristor. If a thyristor is used then the thyristor gate may be operated by a trigger pulse derived from a mains supply or a neon tube and trigger pulse generator (not shown). In a modification (not shown) the discharge of the capacitor charges a further capacitor which is discharged to produce the ignition spark. Arrangements comprising a number of ignition gaps 15 are described.
