A current for supplying an electric fence 2 comprises a transistor inverter 7-13 charging through a step-up winding 14 and rectifier 15 a capacitor 16 which periodically discharges through a spark gap 18 of the gas discharge type into another step-up transformer 20, 24 connected to the fence 2.
