Abstract
1,014,237. Sleeve couplings; cable and wire couplings. BURNDY CORPORATION. May 26, 1964, No. 21682/64. Heading H2E. A connector for a tape cable comprises a housing having a channel 12 with a flat cable supporting surface 36, and a resilient contact element 28 which is attached at one end to the housing, the other end 39 being bent at an angle to bear against the supporting surface 36 and the free end 38 being pointed at 40 to penetrate the cable insulation when the tape cable is inserted between the angled contact and the cable supporting surface 36. The housing is formed in two parts 20 and 22 held together by a screw 21 to secure contacts 28 in grooves formed in the lower part of the body. The tape cable is pushed into the channel 12 until it abuts against a wall 44 and is then pulled in the opposite direction so the pointed ends 40 penetrate the insulation. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the channel 12 passes completely through the body so that the contacts 28 can act as tapping contacts, and in a third embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), the assembly is formed at both ends with channels 12 and bent contacts, so that the assembly acts as a sleeve connector.
