1389642 Connectors; conduits K O G GOTHBERG 3 April 1973 [6 April 1972] 15960/73 Headings H2E and H2C A connector suitable for joining lengths of conduit having conductors embedded therein, comprises a central member A and two or more end members B, (c) (only one shown) each comprising a U-shaped base and lid, the end members B being telescopically displaceable over a limited distance of the central member and having contacts 24 at an end remote from that which telescopes in the central member adapted for mating with the ends of the conduit conductors to be joined, each contact in each end member being connected to a contact in the other end member or one or more of the other end members by a respective extensible cable 23. Each end member B, (c) comprises two insulating blocks 12 with three bores 21 formed with a stop shoulder 22 and a resilient latching projection 25 for retaining a respective contact 24. The end members B, (c) telescope in the central member A (from opposite edges as shown) with stubs (30, Fig. 15, not shown) on the end members engaging grooves (7, Fig. 4, not shown) in the central member, inward movement of the end members being limited by the stubs reaching ends of the grooves or by the end members meeting; closed ends of the grooves (7) also prevent the end members being pulled off. The central member A has a breakaway portion 17 to which a conduit pipe (18) may be fitted and an outlet 19 through which cables may be fed. In the conduit 35, which may be of P.V.C., the conductors 36 extend beyond the ends of the conduit so that they can enter sleeve portions forming the ends of the contacts 24, and a screw can be inserted through a hole adjacent the end of the conduit and a hole 27<SP>1</SP> in the end member. A shielding portion 39 engages edges 37, 38 of the conduit to cover the conductors and also extends beyond the end of the conduit to cover the connector. In other Figures not shown, the central member has two end members attached to adjacent edges of the central member for two conduits at right angles (Fig. 19), or has three end members for a T- joint (Fig. 20), while Figs. 22 and 24 show the end members lying in mutually perpendicular planes suitable for connecting conduits at an external or internal corner of a room.
