Abstract

1,150,186. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 29 Dec., 1967 [19 Jan., 1967], No. 59034/67. Heading H2E. An electrical contact ET comprising a contact section 8, a securing section 9 and a wrapped-wire connection post 10 is held tightly in a passageway P in an insulating plastics housing H, contact section 8 being flexible about a blade section 19 so that it may easily engage a misaligned mating contact (not shown). The passage P is of cross-shaped section with surfaces 1, 3 tapering inwardly into the housing from one end thereof, stop surfaces 7 extending from the other end of the housing to surfaces 6 which connect recesses 4 to arcuate sections 5. Post 10 of contact ET is inserted into passageway P until bevelled ears 20, resiliently engaging surfaces 3, are stopped by surfaces 26, the post then being turned through 90 degrees, thus twisting section 21, so that bevelled lugs 22 engage surfaces 6 and 7. Contact section 8 comprises two fork members 11 with bevelled surfaces 12 having grooves 13 to reduce wear when a similar contact is inserted, the fork members of the second contact being perpendicular to those of the first and engaging channels 18 on either side of portion 16 of contact ET. The contact is formed from a sheet of bronze, brass &c., and may be plated with a noble metal.
