Abstract

1,014,110. Container closures. WILKINSON RUBBER LINATEX Ltd. July 9, 1964 [July 9, 1963], No. 27210/63. Heading B8T. [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A liquid-tight closure for a container 1 having a raised open neck 2 with an external flange 3 forming a peripheral channel around the outside of the neck is of elastomeric material reinforced with fabric 7, formed with a cover portion 5 and a peripheral bead 6 to snap over the flange 3 and engage in the channel so that, when the assembly is submerged, hydraulic pressure urges the bead 6 into the channel to form a seal. The bead 6 has a core 8 of sponge rubber and may have tabs (not shown) to assist in withdrawing it from the channel. The reinforcement 7 may comprise several layers of fabric formed into a single piece which does not extend over the central area of the cover and has elongated portions which extend into that portion of the cover which passes round and under the flange 3. The cover portion 5 may be provided with an additional bead 13 with a bevelled portion 16 to assist in locating it on the neck of which it abuts the inner surface at 15, and an upstanding portion 14 which carries an upper crown (not shown in Fig. 2) to accommodate part of the contents of the container outside its neck. The bottoms periphery 4 of the channel around the neck (Fig. 3, not shown), may be provided with an upstanding lip.
