Abstract

<PICT:1011274/C6-C7/1> <PICT:1011274/C6-C7/2> The gas treating of components is effected by placing them in segmental compartments of a rotor which is rotatably mounted in a cylindrical casing 8. The rotor is indexable, station (i.e. segmental compartment) to station, from a loading position to a gassing position wherein gas, e.g. ammonia, is admitted to each respective compartment through inlet 14 in the wall of the casing 8. Further indexing brings holes 3B and 2A in the rotor into co-operation with holes 10A in the floor of the casing 8 so that suction applied through a tube 11, coaxial with a central tube 4 causes air to flow through the holes 3B and 2A to purge the chamber of gas. Components are successively loaded into the rotor compartments and gassed and purged in turn. The whole operation may be manual or automatic and instead of individually loading the rotor compartments with components a completely loaded rotor may be located in the casing and changed at the completion of the operation.
