Abstract
1,075,776. Blasting. PANGBORN CORPORATION. June 28, 1965 [July 29, 1964], No. 27206/65. Heading B3D. Apparatus for deflashing moulded goods by abrasive blasting comprises a gas-pressurized chamber for cooling the moulded goods, pressure means connected to the chamber, deflashing means in the chamber, air-locking means connected to the chamber and means for opening and closing communication of the airlocking means with the pressurized chamber. The apparatus is generally similar to that in Specification 1,048,477. The housing 1 in which the deflashing means is located is maintained under pressure, e.g. 4 inches water gauge, by dry air or dry gas, e.g. carbon dioxide or nitrogen, supplied by a tank 96 through housing inlet pipe 97 to a header. An air-look chamber 100 contains the loading bucket. With door 5, between the chamber 100 and the housing 1, closed the operator enters the chamber 100 through a door 102 and loads workpieces into the bucket, leaves the chamber 100 and closes the door 102; alternatively the operator loads workpieces into the bucket through the door 102 without entering the chamber 100. The chamber is then purged through a branch line from the pipe 97. The bucket is then actuated to load the workpieces into the deflashing means, the door 5 being automatically opened during this loading, and closed during the deflashing. The medium used in gaseous state for pressurizing the housing 1 is preferably the same as that used in liquid state for differentially freezing the workpieces prior to abrasive blasting. Gaseous refrigeratant emanating from the liquid refrigerant is discharged from the housing 1 through a pipe 103 to a recondenser 105 from which liquid refrigerant passes back to the tank 96. The pipe 90 leads from the housing 1 to an external dust collector 81 having a return pipe 79.
