In a coupling of the kind comprising a body 1 having in each of two opposed faces an openended groove 8, 9 for two tubes 10, 11 which are to be connected at right angles to one another and in which, from the edges of the grooves 8, 9 there projects four hook-shaped ears 12, 13, 14, 15 to which are pivoted and fastened cover or clamping plates 2, 3 which enclose the tubes, the body 1 of the coupling consists of a metal forging, the external surface of the base or floor of each ear is flat, and the flat surfaces of the two ears projecting respectively from the edges of each groove are located in a common plane which is flush with the mouth of the groove. As shown, in which the plates 2, 3 also consist of metal forgings and are pivoted in one of the ears and fastened by a T-bolt 5 in the other ear at each side of the body, the free transverse edge of each ear is concave to provide additional and longitudinally spaced supports for each tube and the flat surfaces of each ear are provided at the edges thereof with lugs 16, 16 which in combination with the grooves 8, 9 span a semi-circle when viewed in elevation, the free edges of opposite pairs lying on a diameter of the semi-circle. The free end of each clamping plate 2, 3, which is slotted for the bolt 5, is provided with a nose portion 24 to prevent outward pivoting of the bolt until a nut 7 has been unscrewed-sufficiently to permit a washer 6 to be raised and held clear of the nose by hand.
