Abstract

1,008,557. Cold cathode trigger-tubes. MULLARD Ltd. June 27, 1962, No. 24703/62. Heading H1D. A cold-cathode glowdischarge trigger-tube arranged for operation under hollow-cathode conditions and having a hollow main cathode 1 formed with a hollow interior and an exterior surface comprises an anode electrode 6 disposed outside the cathode so as to form a main discharge path extending from the anode to the interior surface of the main cathode, a trigger electrode 4 and an auxiliary cathode 2 arranged adjacent the main cathode so as to form a trigger discharge path extending from the trigger electrode to a surface of the auxiliary cathode. The main cathode is preferably tubular and may be formed from a helically-wound strip of metal. A priming electrode 5 may be provided so as to form a priming discharge path terminating on an exterior surface of the main cathode, e.g. on a tongue 3, at a location remote from the trigger discharge path. A gas filling consisting of 85 % neon and the rest argon at a pressure in the region of 40 to 50 mms. of mercury is provided. Specification 974,356 is referred to.
