Abstract

1,006,477. Exhaust silencers. SULZER BROTHERS Ltd. July 31, 1963 [Aug. 23, 1962], No. 30418/63. Heading F1B. In a silencer having a gas flow pipe 1, Fig. 1, connected to a resonater chamber 2 through stub pipes 3, part of the pipe wall is provided with perforations 5 and covered with sound absorbent material 12. In Fig. 1 the sound absorbent material comprises a layer of steel wool 12 covered by mineral wool 14 and retained by a metal casing 7. In Fig. 2 the pipes 3 connect a rectangular section pipe 9 to a resonater chamber 8 and the remaining walls of the pipe are lined with a perforated plate 5 covered with a wire mesh screen 11 surrounded by layers 12, 13 of steel wool and mineral wool.
