Abstract

1,002,788. Stabilizing ships. H. LAGKENBY and M. N. PARKER. Aug. 5, 1964 [Oct. 8, 1963], No. 39632/63. Heading B7M. Passive weight, or passive tank, stabilizers are improved by damping the motion of the weight or liquid and automatically controlling the damping according to the oscillatory motion of the ship. In Figs. 1 and 3 a truck 11 mounted on wheels 27 for movement along a track 12 has magnetic brakes 19 and carries shoes 20, 21 for contacting conductor rails 15, 16 supplied with electricity under the control of a gyroscope 14. In Figs. 5 and 6 a tank 30 is fitted near each end with rotary valves 31, 32 operated by hydraulic actuators 33, 34 under the control of a gyroscope 35.
