Abstract

918,203. Locomotives. SAFEGE-TRANSPORT. April 27, 1959 [March 10, 1959], No. 14331/59. Classes 79(1) and 79(3). [Also in Group XXXII] A railway vehicle body 23, Figs. 2 and 3, is suspended by hangers 51 from a pair of bogie-trucks, running within an overhead box-section girder 20, so that the body is rotatable, under the action of transverse forces, about an axis extending parallel to the girder 20 and situated above the trucks. Each truck comprises a frame 42 carrying a pair of axles 44 for wheels 35 and driven from electric motors 47 through reduction gears 45, the wheels 35 engaging tracks 33, 34 in the girder which is slotted. The motors are supplied with electricity from rails 50 carried by the roof 27 of the girder, through current collectors 49 urged by springs 46 against the rails 50. Guide wheels 40 mounted on the frame 42 engage with the sides 25, 26 of the girder. The hanger 51 is mounted in the manner of a pendulum on a pair of pneumatic springs 102, 103, carried by the frame 42, and projects downwardly through the slot between the tracks 33, 34. Pivoted to the hanger 51 on a pin 104 is a transverse fork member 105, Fig. 5, each end of which carries an inclined stub shaft 106 (see also Fig. 3) carrying an arm 107 connected at its other end to a stub shaft 101 parallel to the shaft 106 and carried by the top of the body 23. The arrangement is such that the plane containing the longitudinal axes of the shaft 106 meets the vertical axis of the device 51 above the truck. At one or both sides of the body 23 the arms 107 are formed integral with cranks 111 connected by rods 108, in each of which is interposed a piston 109 movable in a cylinder 110 secured to the body 23 and filled with hydraulic liquid. By controlling movement of the piston in the cylinder the transverse equilibrium of the body may likewise be controlled. The air supply for the springs 102, 103 may be controlled at will or automatically. In another embodiment described with reference to Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) the fork member is connected to the roof of the vehicle body through Watt parallel motion linkages.
