1313090 Axle box guides MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG ZWEIGNIEDERLASSUNG NURNBERG 19 March 1970 [19 March 1969] 57879/72 Divided out of 1311965 Heading B7L A vehicle frame member, or bogie frame for a rail vehicle, has a support member pivotably connected to the vehicle frame member or bogie frame and pivotably connected to an axle box at a pivot below the axle box so as to allow oscillatory arcuate motion of the axle box, and hence the wheels and axles carried thereby, about an axis parallel with and below the longitudinal axis of the axle, limiting means being provided for limiting the oscillatory arcuate motion of the axle box, the limiting means comprising a projection on the axle box extending longitudinally of the vehicle frame member or bogie frame, and a limiting member, the projection being movable, on oscillation of the axle box in a bore of the limiting member. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the axle box support member is in the form of a bell crank lever 2 which has two arms 3 and 4 extending substantially horizontally and vertically, respectively. The bell-crank lever 2 is pivotably connected to a bogie frame 1 by means of a pivot 5 at the junction of the arms 3 and 4. The outer end of the substantially horizontal arm 3 is connected to an axle box 6 by means of pivot 7 directly below the axle box 6 and the arm 4 is maintained substantially vertical by means of resilient means in the form of a spring 8 between the arm 4 and the bogie frame 1. Limiting means comprising a projection in the form of a T-shaped member 9 is arranged in the vertical arm 4 so that the cross-piece of the T moves along a bore 10 in the arm 4, and the stem of the T moves along a lateral bore extending into the bore 10. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the axle-box support member is a link 11 pivotably connected at one end to the axle box 6 by means of pivot 7 directly below the axle box 6, and fixedly connected at the other end to a torsion bar 12 extending transversely of the bogie frame 1. One end 13 of the torsion bar 12 is pivotably mounted in the bogie frame 1 and the other end 14 is fixedly mounted in the bogie frame 1, so that the torsion bar 12 provides the resilient suspension of spring 8 of the embodiment of Fig. 1. Limiting means comprise a projection in the form of a rod 9, which is attached to the axle box 6 and extends in a longitudinal direction of the bogie frame 1, and a limiting member in the form of a wedge-shaped bracket 15 attached to the link 11. The rod 9 is movable in an aperture in the bracket 15 shaped so as to limit excess oscillatory arcuate motion of the axle box 6.
