Abstract

The wooden framework for a car porch has a column (1) and main roof rafter assembled on site using nails (33). The column has two principal uprights (19, 20) connected by boards (24, 25) and upright (19) is stopped short at (27) to form a pressure bearing surface for the weight of the roof rafter. The latter is made up of two pairs of runners joined top and bottom by boards (13, 14) braced by pieces (15, 16) and with facing boards so that the whole rafter forms a hollow enclosed beam.
