Abstract
699,069. Beams. SELECTION ENGINEE RING CO., Ltd. June 30, 1952, No. 16455/5 Class 20(iv) A hollow beam comprises a pair of self-supporting side frames each extending the length of the beam and consisting of an upper and lower longitudinal member connected at intervals by struts or braces, the side frames being secured together inspaced apart relation and the structure then being enclosed in sheet material which is secured to the frames so as to form a hollow, box-like beam construction. In the form shown, the side frames consist of lattice beams 2 and 3 constructed from wooden battens, the upper longitudinal members 12 and 12a being connected to the lower members 13 and 13a by vertical struts 14, 14a and inclined brace members 15, 15a, the joints between the members being reinforced by plywood plates 16, 16a. The beams 2 and 3 are secured together at top and bottom by plywood panels 4 and 5 and faced on their outer sides with plywood skins 6 and 7 which are nailed and glued in position.
