Abstract

554,739. Building construction. CHESHIRE FORESTS, Ltd., and HARWOOD, P. Feb. 28, 1942, No. 2650. [Classes 20 (i) and 20 (iv)] The skeleton frame of a building, composed of uprights 1 of steel, concrete, or untrimmed tree trunks united by timber cross members 2, supports arcuate roof beams formed of planks 3, 4, 5 ... nailed together and secured at intervals by rivets or coach bolts 6. The ends are connected by tension wires 7 secured to bolts 8 engaging the socketed ends of flitch plates 10 bolted to the ends of the roof beams and to the uprights 1. Corrugated iron, or timber covered with waterproof felting 14 may be used as roofing and slats 13 are also nailed on the inner side. In an alternative, the roof beams may extend down to the floor, when the tension member may be disposed under or in the floor. The beams may be strengthened by short ties disposed across chords of the arc.
