Abstract

Procédé pour la production d'un acide téréphtalique de haute purete. On oxyde du para-tolualdéhyde avec un gaz contenant de l'oxygène moléculaire, tel que de l'air, dans un solvant aqueux et en présence d'ions brome comme catalyseur, et on met la suspension résultante, contenant de l'acide téréphtalique brut, en contact avec un courant de l'acide téréphtalique brut, en contact avec un courant ascendant d'eau à haute température (180 à 310 degrés C) et on recueille l'acide téréphtalique purifié qui se sédimente en descendant au travers du courant ascendant d'eau à haute température. Production continue, avec un haut rendement, d'un acide téréphtalique de haute pureté pouvant donner des fibres de poly(téréphtalate d'éthylène) d'excellente qualité.
