Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain monochloroacetic acid economically and advantageously, by reacting acetic acid with chlorine, blowing raw material chlorine into the completely reacted solution to strip acetyl chloride from the reaction solution, recycling the acetyl chloride through the reaction solution together with chlorine, and reducing the amount of the catalyst used, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Acetic acid is reacted with chlorine in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. acetic anhydride. A part of all of the raw material chlorine is blown into the completely reacted solution in a solution residence time of about 0.3W5min in a solution/gas weight ratio of about 2W10 to strip acetly chloride from the reaction solution to recycle the acetyl chloride with the chlorine gas through the reaction column for reuse as the raw material.
EFFECT: This method may require no additional energy because the carrier gas for stripping is the raw material chlorine gas. The acetic acid is also stripped and recycled through the reaction column, which reduces the energy cost at the distillation column in the next stage, and the side reaction in the next stage may be avoided.
