Abstract

Méthode et dispositif de fabrication de fibres optiques en verre dont la résistance à la traction est proche de la valeur maximale théorique du verre utilisé. La méthode consiste à protéger la surface de la fibre des particules de poussière pendant l'opération d'étirage. Entre la source de chaleur 15 servant à fondre la préforme 10 et le point d'extrusion 23 de sa gaine de protection en plastique 24, la fibre 16 traverse une enceinte 12 à circulation d'air filtré et comportant un éliminateur de charge électrostatique 26, puis un bac de revêtement par immersion 18 le recouvrant dune première couche de plastique souple et élastique 21. On obtient des fibres supportant 2 à 3 GPa avec des verres de résistance théorique 3 à 5 GPa. Application aux câbles de communication par fibres optiques.
