Abstract

1530844 Producing fibres INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 25 Aug 1977 [8 Sept 1976] 35676/77 Heading C1M Optical fibre 16 is drawn from preform 10, the drawing being carried out in a housing 12 through which is passed (from inlet 13 to outlet 14) air which has been filtered to remove dust particles, and the dust-free fibre is then coated with a protective layer 21 (e.g. an elastomeric silicon resin). An additional polymer coating 24 may also be applied. An electrostatic eliminator 26 may be provided in housing 12 to remove electric charges from the fibre surface and any dust particles which have escaped filtration.
