Abstract
PURPOSE:Title unit in which uncoated optical fiber is kept out of the open air form the electric furnace for melting spinning to finishing, thus preventing the formation of flaws on the surface, stabilizing and increasing the strength of optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:Parent material for optical fiber 1 is held with chuck 2 and gradually inserted from the one end into electric furnace 3 and melt spun into fibers with prescribed thickness. Optical fiber spun 4 is continuously taken up with drum 6. Meanwhile, the surface of the optical fiber is coated with a plastic at plastic coater 7 and the plastic is dried in electric furnace 8. Although the optical fiber is naked from the furnace to the plastic coater, it is sealed in the pipe 10, thus being kept from the open air.
