Abstract

The rotor is so shaped as to form four chambers within the casing. The chambers are separated by lip seals which are fixed to the rotor. The initial chamber connects with the inlet port which allows the combustion mixture into the engine under pressure. As the rotor revolves the charge connects with the spark plug which burns the mixture at constant volume. Further rotation of the rotor allows some of the gas to escape through the auxiliary port and increase the pressure in the preceding chamber, thus utilising some of the remaining energy in the gas. A second auxiliary passage repeats the process before the exhaust port is uncovered. The lip seals comprise linear (13-17) joined to the inner annular seals (10, 11) of pairs of annular end seals (9-12).
