Abstract

866,307. Rotary I.C. engines. N.S.U. WERKE A.G., and WANKEL, F. March 18, 1958, No. 8691/58. Class 110 (2). A rotary I.C. engine of the nand n + 1 lobe type comprises inner and outer rotors 2, 6 which are shaped as shown in Fig. 2 and rotated in the same direction with a speed ratio of 3: 2, a power take-off shaft 13 being provided together with an ignition interrupter 18 driven by a shaft 3 through gears 19, 20. The engine is provided with cooling fins 23, 24, liquid cooling passages 22 and passages 25, 26, 27 for the circulation of cooling air. An air/fuel mixture is sucked from the carburetter 5 through the shaft 3 and passes into the working chamber 31 by way of passages 28, 29 and recesses 30, the mixture being fired in a combustion chamber 36 and exhausted through a passage 37. In a modification, Figs. 15-12 (not shown), the outer rotor is in the form of a three-arched epitrochoid and the inner rotor bears continuously thereagainst with four sealing edges, the speed ratio between the inner and outer rotors being 3: 4. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 791,689.
