Abstract
The engine has a central stator (14) with a rotating outer casing (16) mounted eccentrically to the stator. A transverse member (52) with seals (61) divides the housing into two parts (26A and 26B). A mixture of fuel and air is supplied through longitudinal passages to the primary (70) and secondary (68) combustion chambers. Combustion is initiated in the primary chamber (70) by a sparking plug and then as the casing rotates the seal (122) moves away from the surface (50b) and brings the two combustion chambers into communication with each other, allowing combustion to be completed in the secondary chamber (68). The cavity (70) has a tangential inlet which imparts turbulence to the fuel-air charge of ignition.
