Abstract

118,424. Vickers, Ltd., and Thomas, G. June 27, 1917. Movable-abutment type; fixed-abutment type; cooling parts; working-fluid supply. - A rotary combustion-product engine comprises a rotor A having two piston vanes A<2>, A<3> co-operating with passages and recesses in rotary abutments C, D and ports in the casing B so arranged that a charge drawn in through a port B<1> by the vane A<3> is compressed by the vane A<2> into a chamber B<6> in the casing wall, whence, after ignition by the plugs F, it is discharged on to the vane A<2> in the position shown through the port B<9>, the vane A<3> subsequently expelling the burnt gases through a port B<2>. During the second half of the cycle, the vanes A<2>, A<3> draw in scavenging air behind them, which they expel during the first half of the cycle. The rotor A and the vanes A<2>, A<3> may be hollow, having cooling water circulated through them; they may also be perforated so as to inject water centrifugally into the working chamber. The abutments and the rotor A are geared together by spur wheels. In a modification, Fig. 4, the axes of the rotary abutments K, L are arranged at right-angles to the piston rotor J. In another modification, Fig. 3, the piston vanes G<1> are formed on a rotor G surrounding a number of rotary abutments C, D housed in a stator member H.
