Abstract
1429363 Rotary positive-displacement machines. J W STRANGE 30 July 1974 [30 July 1973] 36221/73 Heading F1F In an I.C. engine a rotor 1 has combustion chambers 2 into which a combustible gas e.g. fuel and air mixture, is compressed by e.g. a vane-type rotary compressor (not shown), through openings 13 in a stator central part 12 and generally tangential passages 2. The gas is ignited by e.g. sparking plugs 10, and the combustion products expand into recesses 21, 22, 23. The exhaust gases may be ejected through a manifold 25. Sealing strips 14 made of carbon may be held against the rotor by hydraulic pressure on pistons 16. Water may be injected through nozzles 41, to react with the carbon monoxide of the combustion products, by a pump (not shown) driven by pressure transmitted through a "take-off point" 42. Cooling passages 26 and fins 43 may be disposed as shown. The plugs 10 are energized through contacts 38 on a stator end-plate 28.
