Abstract

1491000 Rotary positive-displacement fluidmachines G KIDD 22 Dec 1975 [28 Sept 1974] 42234/74 Heading F1F An I.C. engine has radially sliding vanes 5, 7 disposed diametrically in a housing 1 and engaging with a rotor 20 on an eccentric 19 fixed to a power-output shaft 16. Air, or fuel and air mixture, is inducted into a chamber 23 through a port 3, which may be furnished with a non-return valve 27, and is compressed into a chamber 10 through a port 11 controlled by a valve 14. Fuel injected into the compressed air, or that in the compressed mixture, may be ignited by a spark-plug 13, the combustion products being transferred through port 12 controlled by a valve 15 to a chamber 24A wherein they expand. Alternatively, the fuel may be ignited in the chamber 24A. Exhaust gases are ejected through a port 4. The valves 14, 15 are either pressure operated or actuated by the shaft 16 by way of suitable mechanism, not shown. There may be two or more working cycles performed by the rotor per revolution. A plurality of rotors may be arranged on a common shaft.
