Abstract

The stopper has a central depression (2) with reinforcing ribs (3). The lower inner edge of the depression has a flexible lip (5) attached, this lip acting as a seal under the effect of the inner pressure. A second lip (6) supplements the seal. The outer skirt (4) has a number of catches (10) at its bottom edge. These have a horizontal face (11) to engage under a ridge (9) round the neck of the bottle, and an angled face (12) to enable the cap tobe pushed into place. Radial tabs (14) are fitted adjacent to the catches. These are used to free the catches to open the bottle. Lines of weakness can be used to tear the cap near the catches, or the catches can be simply levered free.
