Abstract

Electric arc welding has a first stage in which the surface is coated with a thin buffer layer and a second stage in which this layer is melted again by the electric arc, the largest part of the metal to be deposited being applied by the electrodes. Specifically, the buffer layer consists of metals, pref. metal oxides or an emulsion contg. cobalt powder or a mixture forming an alloy on the work piece which emulsion is subsequently dried.
