An electrode for continuous arc welding consists of a metal core 1 wound with wire in two separate layers, the inner layer consisting of a single wire 2 and the outer consisting of two or more spaced wires' 3 wound in the opposite direction to the inner wire 2, the whole being coated with flux 4 so as to leave the surfaces of the outer wires 3 exposed only where they cross the inner wire 2. The core 1 and wires 2, 3 may be of the same or different metals or alloys.
