Abstract

1,148,134. Brazing. COAST METALS Inc. 25 Oct., 1967, No. 48419/67. Heading B3R. [Also in Division C7] Mn-containing alloys in the form of powder, strip, foil or wire, e.g. for brazing steel, have coatings of Ni and/or Co to eliminate or prevent oxidation of the alloys. An alloy consisting of has a coating thereon of Ni and/or Co in an amount sufficient to provide a Ni and/or Co content of from 3-18% in the alloy when the coated Cu-Mn alloy is melted. An alloy consisting of has a coating of Ni and/or Co thereon. Ni and/or Co coatings may be applied to the Cu/Mn by (a) electroplating, (b) applying a solution or suspension of the Ni and/or Co, e.g. in oil of rosemary, and heating the Cu/Mn to 1000‹ F. or (c) spraying with a plasma arc gun.
