Abstract

Electrode wire for use in unprotected arc welding comprises a sheath of circular cross section contg. a core of flux consisting of 20-70% metallic fluoride which includes 1-30% CeF2 and/or LiF and 0.5-10% complex metal fluoride, 1-20% metal carbonate, 10-30% mg-Al alloy powder (contg. 30-60% Al and 5-40% of a different metal powder. The Si content of the flux is 2% and the ratio of the weight of flux to the weight of the wire is 10-40%. Up to 30% metal oxide may also be present in the flux.
