Abstract
An arc-welding electrode consists of a mild steel core coated with a composition containing alkaline earth carbonate, fluorspar, cryolite in an amount not exceeding that of fluorspar, and aluminium, magnesium, titanium, zirconium or an alloy thereof such as alminium-titanium, aluminium-magnesium or ferro-titanium. A suitable composition contains, in addition to iron powder in a proportion of 20-40 per cent of the weight of the coating, .limestone.30-50.per cent .fluorspar.10-20.per cent .cryolite.5- 10.per cent .alminium-50.. .per cent titanium.2- 4.per cent .ferrosilicon and/or.. .ferromanganese.5- 15.per cent .potassium silicate.8- 20.per cent .other slag-forming.. .constituents such as.. .titanium dioxide and.. .manganese oxides,.. .in total.0- 25.per cent p
