Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a composite wire for gas shielded arc welding of superior vertical down weldability by packing a flux of specific composition into carbon steel as a sheath. CONSTITUTION:As a composite wire for gas shielding arc welded, a flux having the following composition is packed in a carbon steel sheath in 10-20% based on the total weight of the wire. As the flux composition, 20-50% TiO2, 1-9% SiO2, 2- 8% Zr oxide such as ZrO2 or zircon sand, and one or both of Al2O3 and Al are added so as to satisfy the following equation, and also 10-40% deoxidizer such as Si, Mn, etc. other than Al is mixed. 0.05%<=(Al2O3+2XAl)<=20%. This electrode has good stability of arc, is proper in solidification of formed slag, has good bead holding effect and is superior in vertical down weldability.
